International Tap Dance Day

“Some people seem to think that good dancers are born, but all the good dancers I know are taught or trained.” – Fred Astaire

Tap is one of my favourite dance styles and has been ever since I was a child, but I can honestly say that until I started to train as a teacher I didn’t know very much about the history of tap dance. Below is my cheat sheet on a tap history inspired by International Tap Dance Day:

This is such a brief look at the history of tap dance, there is so much more than this, but one of the main reasons we celebrate International Tap Dance day is because of Bill Robinson who gave so much to the world of tap dancing and today is also the anniversary of his Birthday so Happy Birthday Bill ‘Bojangles’ Robinson.

There are so many stars of tap dance I cannot mention them all here but let me know if you would like to read more about tap dance and I will continue to write about this amazing history! Head over to my Facebook or Instagram profiles and watch me doing the Shim Sham.

Thanks Hannah 🙂
